Lois Marie Hart, nee Waldo passed away on August 25, 2024, after an extended period of hospice at Seacrest Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Little Egg Harbor, NJ. Lois was predeceased by her husband Walter (Shorty) Hart and her two sisters, Betty and brother-in-law George Powell, and Jean and brother-in-law Allen Tonnessen, as well as her in-laws Gurney and Gertrude Hart, Ellen and Charles Gaskill, Sophie and Art Hargis, Phil and Ruth Hart, and James (Jim) Hart. She is survived by her daughter Ann-Marie Woods nee Hart and son-in law Stephen Woods, and grandsons Gregory (Greg) and Evan Woods, and by her son Bergen W. Hart, and grandchildren Adele Wilson and her husband Jason, and two great-grandchildren Collette and Olivia, Bergen Hart II, and Rachael Hart and three great-grandchildren Roman, Westen and Elaina. Lois is survived by her sister-in-law Joan Hart and nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren. Lois was raised in Paramus, New Jersey. Her father William (Bill) Waldo maintained a small family farm in addition to his full-time job in telephone services. In 1944, her parents Bill and Stella Waldo nee Hardy, moved their three daughters to Ship Bottom and later built the Betty Jean Shop that Lois’ two older sisters and her mother maintained. Lois graduated from Barnegat High School and worked for Zachariah Realty in Ship Bottom. She was a secretary and later worked in real estate. Lois married Walter (Shorty) Hart on January 19th, 1957, and they resided in Brant Beach. Lois devoted her married years to being a homemaker and raising her two children. She spent her spare time out on the Barnegat Bay on summer weekends fishing and crabbing, was an avid gardener, terrific baker and attended mass at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Brant Beach. Lois and Shorty volunteered at St. Francis of Assisi Parish’s yearly summer carnivals and Lois joined the choir for a time. She was a yearly fundraiser for March of Dimes. After her mother Stella’s death, Lois and Shorty moved to her former home in Ship Bottom. Lois’ moved to Fawn Lakes, NJ in 2007 where she was the treasurer of Condo 2 for several years. Lois Hart’s family wishes to extend condolences to all who remember Lois and called her neighbor and friend. Family and friends will be notified of any future Celebration of Life plans. Donations in lieu of flowers, in remembrance of Lois Hart, can be made to any charity actively aiding persons in need or championing the environment. Lois made contributions to the Sierra Club, World Wildlife Fund, the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, National Audubon Society, the Atlantic City Food Bank, Running Strong for American Indian Youth, and veteran’s organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project.
