Obituary of John Patrick Torrell

Pat was born in Surf City, N.J. He was the sixth child of ten born to Nicholas A. Torrell (N.J. State Trooper) and Josephine M. Torrell (homemaker and writer). He attended L.B.I. grade school and graduated from Southern Regional H.S. in Manahawkin, N.J. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with honor as an Electronic Technician. He returned to N.J. after his service and eventually settled in Manahawkin. He worked as a Bayman before joining the Carpenter’s Union and working in this trade until his retirement. “Pat” grew up on L.B.I. and enjoyed the beach, bays, and close friendships growing up on the Island offers. He was a member of the local Moose Club and played on their Shuffleboard Team for years. Always enjoyed family gatherings and time with friends. Was well known for his sense of humor, he will be missed. Pat had a beloved partner Marcia Kurtz, and they enjoyed decades together. He is predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Josephine Torrell, loving partner Marica Kurtz, brothers Peter and Christopher Torrell, and his sisters Josephine “Nikki” Armstrong, Mary Alice” Tony” Hartman, Marie Laure Baglio and brothers and sisters in law Thomas Armstrong, Richard Hartman, Frank Baglio, Nancy Torrell and Jack Blumberg (Noelita). He is survived by his siblings, Noelita Torrell of Linwood N.J., Michael Torrell of Ship Bottom N.J., Jerome Torrell (Crystal) of Palmer, Mass. and Mary (Mimi) Bonner (John) of Parkertown, N.J. along with in-laws Sharon Baruth and Anne Marie Argenziano and many nieces and nephews and their families. A Memorial Mass for Pat will be held on February 24,2024, 11AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Barnegat N.J. with internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin N.J. following the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ST. Jude’s Foundation in his name. The family wishes to thank all the kind and caring CNA’s and Nurses at both Barnegat Nursing Home and Southern Regional Hospital whose care for Pat was exceptional.
