Obituary of Joan Marie Wickert

Joan Marie Wickert (Klinger) passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023. Joan was born in Delaware County Pennsylvania on November 5, 1938. Joan grew up in Chester, PA and attended Notre Dame for Girls in Moylan, PA and went on to study at Drexel University. Joan received an Associates Degree in Elementary Education from Ocean County College. After raising her children Joan was a long-time employee of Beall’s Shop-n-Bag in Beach Haven, NJ as the Head Cashier. Joan went on to be a teacher for the St. Francis Center Children’s Services in Brant Beach, NJ. Joan was well known for her love of cooking, having a small catering business and providing desserts for Kubel’s in Barnegat Light, NJ. Joan was proud of her famous rice pudding and cobblers. Joan was an avid reader and her love reading was an inspiration to several of her grandchildren and other family members. Joan was predeceased by her husband Peter M. Wickert, daughter Cynthia Samler, parents Raymond and Johanna Klinger, brother Jimmy Klinger, sister Margaret Fanelli, grandsons Kevin Samler Jr and Zachary Wickert. Joan is survived by her children Jenny Sprague (Steven), Peter D. Wickert (Betty), Jeffrey Wickert (Mary), Amy Haugh (Christopher). Joan was a cherished Aunt to many, especially Melissa Zaun (Fanelli). Joan was a loving grandmother to Kelly Newton (Sprague), Steven Sprague, Ashley and Matthew Wickert, Alexander Wickert, Matthew Haugh, Ryne and Adam Samler. Joan was honored to be a great grandmother to Leah and Nicholas Newton and Troy Samler. A celebration of life will be held for Joan on Saturday June 10, 2023, at 1pm at the home of her son Jeffrey Wickert. All are welcome.
