Grace DiElmo (81) of Little Egg Harbor - passed away peacefully on June 20th after a long battle with dementia. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Casmino “Sonny” DiElmo. She is survived by her 2 sons - Casmino and David DiElmo, sisters Sue Ford Leary and Bonnie Nelson, brothers Raymond Shinn and Buck Shinn, 3 Grandchildren - Cataleena, Dasey and Sunni. Grace was born in Manahawkin NJ and spent her life in the Tuckerton area. She graduated from the last graduating class of Tuckerton High School and went on to attend college at Glassboro State College. In 1976, Grace became the first female municipal clerk for the Borough of Tuckerton. During her 38 years as Municipal Clerk, Grace continued her education at the Rutgers School of Government and achieved the titles of Registered Municipal Clerk and Certified Municipal Registrar. She volunteered with the Tuckerton Board of Health, the Tuckerton Seaport and the Tuckerton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She spent countless hours with the local Little League and the Pinelands Regional High School Band Parents Group. She battled and beat cancer 3 separate times and found great pleasure as a volunteer speaker with other cancer survivors at the Ruth Newman Shapiro Group at the Atlantic City Medical Center. She was also instrumental in bringing the first Mobile Mammography Unit to Tuckerton in the early 1990’s. She was a huge fan of the NY Giants and the NY Yankees. She was “mom” to all the neighborhood kids and always had a smile on her face. As per her wishes, no funeral services will be held. A memorial celebrating her life will take place at a later date.
