Carmela Josephine (Nocera) Saxton of Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, February 9, 2020. "Cam" (as she was known to her friends and family).
Carmela was born on December 3, 1941, in Elizabeth NJ to Frank and Jenny Nocera. Carmela attended Battin High School in Elizabeth, NJ. After raising her family, she graduated Ocean County College Nursing program, passed the national exams, and became a Registered Nurse in 1986. She was employed at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River for 25 years. Carmela was a Charge Nurse for Long Term Care patients whom she cared for deeply and was well respected in her field. After many years of devoted service to HealthSouth and her patients, Carmela retired in 2010.
Carmela enjoyed a simple life; she was a kind and gentle person who loved organizing and having everything in its place. She was a devout Christian and enjoyed singing in the church choir. After retirement, Carmela enjoyed volunteering with many organizations. In 2017, Carmela moved to Brandywine Senior Assisted Living in Toms River where she was cared for impeccably by both Brandywine staff and Grace Hospice. Carmela enjoyed bingo and participating in the many activities that Brandywine had to offer. She always had time for conversation with the residents and staff. Carmela enjoyed keeping the Brandywine Country Kitchen well organized and stocked for everyone to enjoy.
Carmela is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Patrick Nocera and Natale “Red” Nocera. She is survived by her sister Nicolette “Nikky” of Bethlehem PA.
Carmela is survived by her four sons and grandchildren; John and his wife Maureen, son Aidan of Millstone, NJ; James and his wife Justine of Pine Beach NJ, Patrick and his wife Caroline, son Brandon and daughter Karina; Gregory and his wife Laura, daughters Courtney and Hannah.
A private cremation service was held at Polhemus Cremation Services, West Creek, NJ.
A Celebration of Life luncheon will be hosted by the family to be announced.
