Obituary of Eleanor V. Mulvany

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor “Ellie” Segall Mulvany passed away peacefully in her home on June 18, 2016. She was surrounded by her family and friends as she entered her Heavenly home and is at rest after a lengthy illness. Daughter of the late Dr. Charles F. Voorhis and Elizabeth Voorhis, formerly of Palmyra New Jersey, Eleanor attended the University of Delaware, Dickinson College and attended Hahnemann University School of Medicine during the 1940s. She also worked for the State Board of Child Welfare subsequently. Ellie resided here in Surf City since 1956. Married to her husband “Jack” Segall (original owners of Surf City Pharmacy), for nearly 20 years until his passing in 1975. She remained an active Surf City resident during both the ‘62 March Storm and more recently, Hurricane Sandy. Ellie was always well-known and respected in the Long Beach Island community and was active in the Ladies’ Hospital Auxiliary during the launch of Southern Ocean Community Hospital and was an active volunteer for more than 20 years. She was the Parent and Teachers’ Association President during the 60’s and an active member of Ocean Acres Golf Club 9-Holers as well as Oakland Hills and Wildflower Golf Clubs in Rotonda West, Florida. She spent 30 plus “snow-bird” retirement years enjoying her many friends and activities. She married Raymond Mulvany in 1981 and enjoyed many years traveling to Europe, Asia and other foreign lands until his passing in 1991. Ellie and her daughter Jackie shared a love for Paris, France, visiting many times during her remaining years. It was her “hometown” abroad, she said. Even though she resided at her Rotonda West residence during the winter months, Ellie always considered her house in Surf City as her “Real Home”. The last 4 years found Ellie in declining health, but she was able to celebrate and enjoy both her 90th and 91st birthdays with family and friends. A trustee for the United Church of Surf City for more than 10 years, Ellie played an active role as Chair of the Annual Benefit Flea Market and Bazaar events while also serving as a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. Ellie is survived by her daughter, Jackie Segall Gale, from Surf City, and her nephew, Tom Segall and spouse Glenna, from Lansing, Michigan. She is also survived by her step-son James Mulvany and spouse MaryCarol, from Coles Point, Virginia. A "Celebration of Life" for “Ellie” Mulvany, will be held on Friday, July 15th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation with family and friends at 10 a.m. The service will be at the United Church of Surf City, 7th and Central Avenue, Surf City. A repast will immediately follow in the Sunday school room. Donations to the United Church of Surf City are welcome in lieu of flowers.
