I served in the army with corporal Plump US51028992 in the 526th AAA Gun Battalion where he served as battery clerk. We had many good times together going to Giant's football games and Rangers Hockey games. I remember Herb pointing to a corner of the old Madison Square Garden an describing his excitement when he was with the Jersey Jolters. We were on site near Little Ferry on Moonachie Ave and Herb would go home each evening to Lodi. He would say that the farthest he ever got from home, except for a short period in Texas, was to go to Montauk Point for firing practice. Herb was a good friend throughout my service with the 526th, I had occasionally tried to get in touch with Herb but had not been successful. I occasionally would google his name and just learned of his passing Sincere condolences to his family.

Marilyn and I are very saddened about Herb's passing. We have been watching for information on his service but unfortunately we did not see it. We assure his family that we would have been there. He was a faithful neighbor and friend who was always ready to help anyone who needed his skill and ability. His smile, his joy over his family were always contagious. His grandson was such a joy to Herb.....he always brought us up to date with how he was doing in school. Herb was a proud grandfather, father and a devoted husband to Millie. The neighborhood is a little darker without Herb.
We shall all miss his stories, his wonderful sense of humor, his warm and delightful smile and the way he was always ready to stop and chat, whether walking or driving.
We send Millie, her son and grandson our deepest sympathy and love. We shall miss Herb dearly. With prayers for God's grace at this sad time, I join the many who pray for comfort and strength to meet the days ahead, Millie. John and Marilyn Morrow

How very sad. We will really miss Herb around the neighborhood. He always stopped to chat and tell stories. We really enjoyed him. God bless
