Obituary of Christopher A. Grasso

Please share a memory of Christopher to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Christopher A. Grasso, 86, of Little Egg Harbor, passed away Thursday, September 7th, at his home. Chris was born and raised in Keyport, one of nine children born to the late Sally and Joseph Grasso. He married his wife Florence (nee, Schmidt) and moved to Carlstadt where they raised 2 sons. He was a self-taught roofer, carpenter and engineer. There wasn’t much that he could not build or repair. Upon retirement they settled in Little Egg Harbor. Chris had a passion for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his 2 sons, family and friends. He spent countless hours at their property in NY climbing his mountain looking for that elusive buck, fishing the streams, lakes and reservoir for bass and trout, and the bays, inlets, beaches and canyons off the Jersey shore for whatever was in season. Chris and his wife Florence camped their way to all four corners of the US and parts of Canada in a pickup camper. He created a beautiful place on their property in NY for the family to gather and play together, becoming the location for 40+ years of family reunions. He accomplished his dream, “To Keep the Family Together”. Chris will always be remembered for his kind and loving heart, giving soul and relentless passion for family. Chris is survived by his wife, Florence of 65 years; 2 sons, Chris Jr. and his wife Joan of Georgia, and Mark and his wife Jackie of Cedar Knolls. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren; Stephanie (wife of Steven Post), Theresa (wife of Matthew Hamilton), Jessica (wife of Luciano Nicolaci) and Matthew; 1 great-granddaughter, Stella Olivia Post; and his brother, Peter Grasso. Chris was predeceased by his daughter Janet Lee Grasso; his siblings; Ernest Grasso, Mary Eisenmann, Theresa O'Rourke, Josephine Darcy, Delores Carroll, Rosalie Cassie, and Eugene Grasso. There will be a memorial Mass at Saint Theresa’s Church, Little Egg Harbor, NJ on Saturday October 14th at 11 am. "Celebration of Life" to follow at the American Legion Post 493. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Saint Theresa’s Church or your favorite local charity in Chris’s name.
