Obituary Marguerite Ellen Triveri (née Smith), affectionately known to family and friends as “Reet” or “B” (for Babe), passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the age of 72.

At the time of her passing, Reet was living in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, where she enjoyed life at the Jersey Shore. She was surrounded by love in her final moments, with her devoted husband, Hugo, and beloved dog, Tucker, by her side. Reet is survived by her loving husband, Hugo, with whom she shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage; her sons, Evan and Matthew; her daughter-in-law, Emily Sassano-Triveri; and her treasured granddaughter, Campbell, who brought immeasurable joy to her life and quickly became the light of her world.

Born at Englewood Hospital, Reet was raised in Cresskill, New Jersey, where her family had deep roots and lifelong friendships. She was the beloved daughter of the late Warren Smith and Marguerite (Beucler) Smith and grew up in a large, close-knit family alongside her siblings: Kathy Rossi and her husband, Edward; Raymond Smith; Susan Noseworthy and her husband, Michael “Red”; Stacy Smith; Jeanette Place and her husband Doug; and Jimmy Smith. Reet attended St. Therese Catholic School before graduating from Cresskill High School. While still in high school, she worked at Kings Supermarket, where she met the love of her life, Hugo, affectionately known as “Otto.” Their chance meeting grew into a beautiful love story that spanned nearly five decades of marriage. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. After high school, Reet attended The New York Foundling Hospital in New York City, where she discovered her calling to care for children, particularly those with special needs and children who had experienced abuse. She later continued her education at the Englewood Hospital School of Nursing. Reet dedicated her professional life to helping others. She began her nursing career as a newborn nursery nurse at Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, New Jersey, where she welcomed countless babies into the world. She later worked with the Child Study Team in the Demarest School District, served as Assistant to the Vice Principal in the Medford Township School District, and concluded her career in the Admissions Department at Penn State University. Wherever Reet worked, she left a lasting impression through her kindness, compassion, and genuine love for children and families.

One of the many special relationships she cherished was with Jenna, the daughter of Marty and Dale Lucibello, whom she first met as a newborn at Pascack Valley Hospital. Their lifelong bond was a testament to the deep connections Reet formed with those fortunate enough to know her.

Above all else, Reet’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, an adoring grandmother, a caring sister, and a loyal friend. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, cared for, and loved. Her warmth, generosity, quick wit, and compassionate heart touched everyone she met. Reet had the most infectious smile for everyone she met. While in rehab the staff nicknamed her Smiley. The arrival of her granddaughter, Campbell, brought her immeasurable happiness, and becoming “Lolli” was one of the greatest blessings of her life. Reet will be remembered not only for her dedication to caring for others but also for the love she shared so freely, the friendships she nurtured, and the family she cherished above all else.
