Susan J. Parker (nee Price), 72, of Haven Beach, passed away at home on May 20 after a short illness.

Susan was born in 1954, the daughter of Theodore and Barbara Price. Her father was a long-time executive in the Advertising and Public relations business; her mother was an Executive Secretary before electing to manage the household in the post WWII era. Susan grew up in Ridgewood, NJ, where she graduated from Ridgewood (NJ) High School, and then subsequently from Centenary College.

She moved to LBI in the early 1980’s, where her parents had owned property, and where she had vacationed since the late 1950’s. On LBI Susan was a successful chef for several restaurants where she found great joy. She joined the retail sector, primarily at Sink ‘R Swim shoppes, eventually owning and opening My Walk-in Closet, her own clothing and accessories company, a lifelong creative dream of hers come true. She subsequently retired.

Susan’s husband, Steven, grew up on the island along with his six siblings, where the Parkers have lived for many generations. When Sue and Steve met in 1987, it was kismet. He had a photo of her on the beach that had been printed in the LBI newspaper in his wallet. Susan married Steve Parker in 1989 and would have marked their 37th Anniversary in October.

Susan’s love of the culinary arts, fashion, old movies, bad sci-fi, reading, cats, and her husband all made her a marvelous and greatly missed woman.

She is survived by her husband, Steve, also of Haven Beach, her brother Doug and his wife, Steve’s brothers and sisters, and her many nieces and nephews.

A small private family gathering will be held to remember Susan at a time and place yet to be determined.
