Gary Dinenberg Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Dinenberg, who died peacefully at home on May 5, 2026, in the loving presence of his wife and daughters. Born on July 13, 1951, in Philadelphia, Gary was always a hard worker, taking on jobs from the age of eight years old, when he carried groceries for neighbors, in exchange for a nickel. At fifteen Gary met his high school sweetheart Lynne at Lower Merion High School, after pulling up in a leather jacket and riding a motorcycle. During this time Gary’s love for music took him and Lynne to many venues to see some of the world’s greatest artists, even meeting Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane.
Gary began college with Lynne at Temple University, later transferring to Penn State University. With Lynne never far from his mind he hitchhiked for hours every few weeks to visit her at Temple. After graduation they lived in State College for some time while Gary attended graduate school to attain his Masters degree in English literature. Gary and Lynne tied the knot in 1971 in a small ceremony in Bala Cynwyd. The pinnacle of Gary’s educational journey came next, as he attended and graduated from New York Law School with his Juris Doctor. After passing the bar exams in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Gary accepted a position at a law firm at the Jersey Shore, where he and Lynne settled down and started a family, welcoming two daughters. In 1982, Gary opened his own private practice, providing the full gamut of legal services to the South Jersey community. Over the years, Gary developed a specialty in commercial litigation, and helped countless clients file bankruptcies to save their homes and get a fresh start in life.
Above all else, Gary was a devoted family man. After his retirement in 2020, you could find Gary spending time with his grandchildren, playing golf with Lynne and listening to music with his daughters and son-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne; his daughters, Kimberly (Justin) Furniss and April Dinenberg; grandchildren Tyler and Fiona Furniss; sister Sherry (Marc) Lustman, extended family; and the many friends, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives were better for having known him.
The family will be celebrating Gary’s life in an intimate gathering.
