Lois M. Somodi (nee Levant) of Little Egg Harbor passed away peacefully at age 84 on October 2, 2025.
Born on February 26,1941, the first born of William and Stephanie Levant, Lois was the “rock” of her family.
Always there to listen and lend a hand to those in need. Her journey through this life was filled with love
of family and friends. In her later years, she was met with many physical challenges and illnesses of which
she never once complained. She met every challenge with a brave heart and faith. Whenever she was
faced with a challenge, she would remind her family of the “Footprints” saying, knowing that Jesus was
there carrying her through trying times. Lois was always more concerned about others well-being than her
own, the matriarch of the family, always there with an ear to listen and a helping hand to anyone in need.
Lois was raised in Maplewood, NJ, and then eventually settled in Newark, NJ, where she attended East
Side High. This is where she befriended Sally Somodi, who had an older brother Frank. Lois knew at first
sight that he was the “one”. They dated and were married on September 10, 1961. They lived in Newark
and raised their family. Lois worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for many years, balancing life roles
during the 1960’s - 2000’s. Lois loved all of the holidays, Easter, July 4th, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and
especially Christmas, making them special for her children and grandchildren. Lois and Frank would spend
many Christmas Eve’s staying up all night, putting up the tree, decorating the house, and wrapping gifts for
their three children who woke up on Christmas morning to a home that was changed overnight to a
Christmas wonderland! This was truly amazing as all of this was done AFTER midnight mass! Tradition
was very important to Lois, especially the traditions of culinary delight! Homemade pierogies for Christmas
Eve, and Sauerbraten with spaetzle for Christmas Day dinner. All handed down recipes from her parents
and grandparents. Lois loved baking for her family as well, preparing delicious pies, cakes, Christmas
cookies, and breads. She also was the official birthday cake maker, making all of her children's and
grandchildren's birthday cakes to order, in whatever theme they wanted!
Lois always made sure her children were involved in many activities, from playing Ice Hockey (the original
hockey mom), baseball, music and art lessons, and supporting their dreams and aspirations. This continued
on with her grandchildren, supporting all of their interests with great enthusiasim. Lois had a way of making
all feel welcomed in her home. She loved to have company stop in for a visit! Everyone loved to visit Lois
and Frank and commented how warm, cozy, and welcomed they made everyone feel. Especially their 4
grandchildren. Christopher, Tyler, Nicolle, and Nicholas. Each had a very special relationship with grandma,
she made sure of that! They could talk with grandma about anything, because grandma took an interest in
all they did. She also loved to tell them about her life, family/holiday traditions that they all now cherish and
will most certainly pass along. This is what life is about, she reminded us; To pass along the stories of the
past, the traditions and values, to remember who you are and what you stand for and to pass along to
future generations. This is the currency of our lives, which Lois has unconditionally shown to all of her
family and friends. Her legacy of faith, family, traditions, and love are instilled in our everyday lives and will
be carried on for generations to come.
Lois is predeceased by her husband Frank (February 5, 2025) whom she is now reunited with in
eternity. She is survived by her Daughter and son-in-law; Stephanie and Robert Barone, her son and
daughter-in-law; Frank Jr. and Christine Somodi; her son and daughter-in-law; Gary and Annette
Somodi. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren; Christopher, Tyler, Nicholas, and Nicolle. Her
Brother and sister-in-law; William and Juanita Levant Jr.; Her sister Mary Zirpoli; Her brother-in-law and
sister-in-law; Al and Delores Somodi; and her Sister-in-law; Carol Ann Dewolf. Along with many cousins
