Obituary of Mathias Kerekes Jr
Please share a memory of Mathias to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mathias “Matt” Kerekes Jr., 61, of Whiting, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, after bravely concluding his journey with cancer. We will forever cherish his strength, courage, and unwavering resilience throughout the past year.
Matt was born to Mathias and Jean Kerekes Sr. on April 23, 1963. Throughout his life, Matt called both New Jersey and Kansas City, Missouri home. What began as a short stay in Kansas City eventually became something much more; he built a life there, raised his family, and spent 22 years there before retiring from Ford Motor Company.
He was affectionately known as “Jersey Matt” by friends at American Legion Post 58 in Smithville, where he was often seen riding his motorcycle in charity rides and poker runs. A proud Kansas City Chiefs supporter, he could always be counted on to sport a recent championship shirt or fly a victory flag during football season. Still, his loyalty never wavered from his beloved New York Giants. His other passion was NASCAR – where countless memories were made over the years, surrounded by family and friends. Matt also had a love for music and never missed a chance to defend his stance on the better rock band (Zeppelin).
Matt treated everyone like a friend, always checking in and making sure the people he loved felt connected—no matter where life had taken them. He will be deeply missed and leaves behind a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his children, Kayla (Todd) and Mathias III (Olivia); and his cherished grandson, Hudson. He also leaves behind his mother, Jean, and father, Mathias Sr; his sisters, Deborah (Richie) and Janet (Shawn); as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. Matt was welcomed into Heaven by many cherished family members and friends who passed before him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd, Whiting, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, with the memorial service to follow. Food and refreshments will be provided as we gather to remember and honor the life of Matt. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to charity of your choice, in his memory.
