Obituary of Frank Kownacky
Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank “Tommy” Kownacky who left us on January 28th, 2025. Tommy bravely battled esophageal cancer for the last year of his life. He maintained a fighting spirit up until the end. He passed peacefully surrounded by those he loved. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an exceptional member of his community. Born on August 25th, 1972 in Trenton, NJ, Tommy was the oldest child of Nancy Gilbert and Frank Kownacky (Gail).
Tommy was born in Trenton NJ August 25th, 1972. He grew up in Ewing NJ. After graduating high school Tommy enlisted in the Army. He spent 5 years in the United States Army as an explosives engineer. In 1999 Tommy joined the Ewing Township Police Department where he and his K-9 partner Ace served until their retirement in 2022.
Tommy’s favorite place to be was with his wife and his children. From spending countless hours at the ball field when Andrew and Kyle were young to spending many hours at dance competitions and dance recitals supporting Gianna. The only thing that he loved almost as much as his family was fishing and being outdoors. Anything to do with fishing and camping he loved. Whether he was fishing on the ocean or his kayak, making custom baits, fishing poles or teaching his friends children how to bait their line. Camping near the lake or out in the front yard with “his girls” made him happiest.
Tommy leaves behind his loving wife Gina, their daughter Gianna Marie and his boys Andrew and Kyle. Tommy also left behind his K-9 partner Ace who sadly lost his battle to cancer February 3rd, 2025. The family takes comfort in knowing that they are together again. Tommy also leaves behind siblings Jennifer Markert (Scott), Denise Ondrick (Jerry) and John Kownacky (Marie). He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents John and Claire Smith and paternal grandparents Stanley and Marjorie Kownacky. He also leaves behind many aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that became family.
Services for Tommy will be Wednesday February 12th, 2025 at Our Lady Of Good Counsel Church, Ewing NJ. There will be a viewing from 9-11am at the church with a funeral mass to follow. Burial will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 1:30. There is a planned gathering at the Ewing PBA hall. All are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers a Fund The First Page has been established to go towards Gianna's college (Donation link can be found in the link tree).
